Lionel 6-62162 Crossing Gate

The Lionel 6-62162 Crossing Gate - Do the lights flash left right - left right when the gate goes down ?

Thanks Steve

No, they don’t flash. They just light up.

I bought some R258 red bulbs for a Marx crossing signal that flash after they are on for a few seconds.

They wont fit this signal but you can check for bulbs for this signal that will flash.

I bought the MTH version. Exactly the same but lights flash.

That style crossing gate uses a red #19 bulb, which has a two pin base. It was a poor design, and has been marked obsolete by GE many years ago. They only made a handful of different bulbs with that style base.
I don’t think a flasher was made. If you find one, please post the bulb number.

I received my Crossing Gate today. I wired it up to operate from an insulated control rail and it worked great. The best part is that the red lamps do flash left- right-left-right. I have Question ? Does anyone suspect that I would do any harm to the flashing circuit inside if I ran the AC current through a bridge rectifier so the gate coil would operate on DC and eliminate the buzz from the coil.

Steve

If you can access the circuit board and see if it has a diode array to convert the AC to DC(they usually do) for the flasher circuit, it will work fine on DC.
