I’m looking at purchasing a Lionel # 6220 AT&SF Switcher. Some descriptions say it is for O-27 and # 622 is for 0-31.
I can’t see any differance.
Is there?

According to the service manual, some early-production 6220s were made with their wheels in an ever-so-slightly narrower gauge, to prevent binding on the tighter O27 curves. This was later found to be unnecessary, and the majority of 6220s are no different from the 622s.
jfitz,
The 622 is ‘O’ gauge and 6220 is ‘O-27.’
Usually, Lionel designated most of it’s engines this way, but there are a few exceptions to this rule.
Ralph
The 6220 is ten times the locomotive that the 622 is!
Bob,
What is the difference, does the 6220 have a stronger motor?
Ralph
The only difference is the zero… denoting a factor of ten.
Rob
Say what?
6220 is ten times 622 all day long.
622*10 = 6220
622 x 10 = 6220
6220 / 10 = 622
Rob
Rob & Bob,
Thank you, that is cute.
I actually thought that there was a difference, not catching Bob’s joke.
Ralph
They are right no difference, just like the 027 2025 / 0 ga.675.
