how are the roofs removed to install new light bulbs, please?
I am not sure which passenger cars you have. Lionel’s product number 9610 is for a Frisco Hi-cube boxcar.
I have the Pennsylvania 9500 series cars (9513, 9514 and 9515) at home that may be similar to what you have.
Please describe your cars and I will get back to you Thursday night (I will be out of town until then).

thanks for the reply. you have the same pennsy coaches that i have been describing. the numbers on mine were smudged—or is it just me? the 9500 series it is—not the 9600.

Hi Len,
The roof of the cars are held on with tabs. Two windows on each side are thicker than the others. These are the tabs holding the roof on. To remove the roof, slide a thin metal ruler between the roof and the body at one end. Gently pry upward, working the roof away from the car body at all four corners, while at the same time, depressing the tabs close to the end being lifted.
Replacement lamps are Lionel part number 8352-310. You should be able to get them from any Lionel Service Station or parts supplier advertised in CTT.

took your suggestion and it just doesn’t work!!! maybe i need a better explanation of what and where the “thick” windows are. i posted this question again under the proper 9510 number.

Hi Len,
The tab windows are the third or forth window from each end. There are two of these windows on each side of the car. I you look down the row of windows, the two tab windows stick out farther than the other windows.
The windows will come out with the roof.
