I don’t usually post on the toy train portion of this website but a couple of weeks ago I visited the Eisner Museum of Advertising here in Milwaukee and saw the exhibit on Lionel Advertising. They also have some new and historic Lionel trains on display in addition to the old advertising and catalog pages. It was very well done and well worth visiting if you find yourself in the Milwaukee area. I believe the exhibit closes March 26

Hi Dave, do you know of any other links that show some of the exihibit ? Cool picture for the advertising, but only tells about the museum in general.

And isn’t it ironic that inorder to see the remains of dinosaurs or Lionel Train advertisements, one needs to go to a museum?

Of course in the case of the dinosaurs, I suppose the museum is not such a bad option. The evening news is already bad enough without hearing “Dinosaur eats family of four… more at 11” or “Model train delivery delayed because dinosaur eats shipping container.”

Though they do both have something in common: the dinosaur remains are expensive to dig up and put on display, and current national advertising for Lionel (or anyone) is also expensive.

Let’s hope Lionel though doesn’t end up like the dinosaurs. [:(]

Dave Nelson the originator of this thread asked if I could post some shots from the Eisner Advertising Museum Lionel Exhibit. Below are some shots of the equipment on display and some of advertising also being shown.

Feel free to comment on what is shown in the photos. My knowledge of Lionel equipment is limited since I model N Scale.

Those pictures give me the idea to use Lionel track as chair rail in a train room…

I believe that some of the trains on display were loaned by Jack Sommerfeld, of Sommerfeld’s Trains, in Butler. Also, the CTT project layout “The CT&T” was on display.

Thanks for posting the shots Keith. Yes they used Lionel track as a sort of chair rail, very neat looking idea.
Summerfeld’s trains provided some of the trains.

The display has some original boxes, one of which really took me back to my first Lionel O-27 trainset circa 1957-58. For all I know it was my box since I sold it with all my Lionel to a Milwaukee area guy around 1968 or so. Wish I had it all now
