Lionel air whistle problems

Hi Guys,

I would like to replace the relay for an older Post War air whistle with an electronic version. In doing research on this topic, I ran accross this thread. http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/p/76446/916197.aspx#916197

Unfortunately, either the schematics are not at Hobby Corner (now located at discover circuts) http://www.discovercircuits.com/DJ-Circuits/daj-main.htm or I don’t know which one to use.

I don’t beleive that electricrr has their replacement product available anymore.

So, my questions are 1) is there a schematic available and 2) if not, can the Lionel electronic relay uses in their new air whistles be adjusted for use with the old post war whisle? The reason I ask this is that the new air whistles use DC can motors…

Thanks, for your help. Dave

Since I am on vacation, I have done some additional research. In re-reading the thread that I previously posted, I learned that the Electric RR site has a “Hobby Corner” section that contains three projects that relate to the whistle controller:

Post War Whistle Controller

Used by the AC/DC Commander, this circuit will come in handy to operate your post war whistle under Command Control. A low cost, simple to construct, fun weekend project.

Teledyne Coupler Controller

Conventional control of your coil couplers. Activate the couplers on your post-war switchers with the “Horn” button!

Solid State Post War Relay Replacement

A combination of the above two projects, this is a solid state version of a whistle / horn relay. Tired of “tweaking” that relay to pull in or release?

Thanks. This looks very interesting. Might just help those “pesty” whistles.
