I recently took my gg-1 to our local authorized service station.It took 5 weeks for them to start. After beig told they did not have access to LioneL parts I had to purchase the part from Lionel… I guess to be thorized all you need a hammer and screwdriver.I am disappointed with Lionel service !!! I was under the understanding you needed test equipment, tools, and parts. A little exppertise helps
I believe last year Lionel started to overhaul their service centers requiring all service techs to attend classes at Lionel. I am not sure if it was a requirement to attend the classes to remain an authorized service center.
My local hobby shop, which was an “Authorized Lionel Repair Service Center” for years, is no longer authorized by Lionel and I found out that all of this shop’s service techs., owner and others did not attend Lionel’s Repair Classes. I believe, it involves Lionel’s reputation and possible litigations, that untrained shop repair techs. and the shops cannot use Lionel’s name and reputation for repairs, especially if and when something goes wrong, unless they are “Lionel” trained and “Authorized!!” Waiting for “Lionel Authorized Repairs,” will be quicker, even if the " Lionel Authorized" shop don’t have the part and has Lionel send them the part(s). I gotta agree with the others an Authorized dealer has access to lionel parts. In fact you do too, just check their parts pages and order.
I have a Authorized Lionel Service Station. I order parts for all repairs, not my customers, Warranties or other wise. Lionel sends my parts and I have them in one to two days, repairs out the door in fourteen days or less. Also don’t blame Lionel service, blame your local shop.
