I just set up a oval of track to run a new locomotive on TMCC. Underneath the rail sounds I hear what appears to be (static). Don’t know what is causing it. If I lower the volume the noise is still there. Has anyone else experienced this? Shoud the caboose go back to Lionel? Or is this normal?
Thanks, Sam Karpel
Ps: A Pennsylvania RR railfan forever
All my railsounds steamers have some background noise that sounds “staticy” Some of it is intentional background sounds I believe. As long as the rest of the sounds are working I think it is normal.

I should have said tender and not caboose. The scratchy noise cannot be intentional rail sounds.
Sam
Sometimes dirty track will cause this and most railsounds tenders take a 9 volt battery to compensate. I do not know if yours takes a battery or not. Does it take one? Or did you install one? It could also be a loose connection somewhere such as a plug to the board or a bad solder joint at the center wheel roller. Steam railsounds does have a steam “hiss” that has sort of a staticy sound but I would have to hear it to recognize it.
