Did anybody get these and if so is the crane base diecast. It doesn’t say it is in the catalog but I expect it would be… Maybe the harder part will be finding one!!
Also noticed a guy on the bay is custom painting several Bethlehem cars including the 2460 crane and the 2420 work caboose all in the yellow and black scheme… looks pretty good and the price isn’t too much more than the Lionel black ones…hhmmmmmmm
Dennis, I own one of the Lionel Bethlehem Steel crane cars (6-29869), and NO the crane base is not metal, it’s plastic. Only the two 6-wheeled trucks are metal to give the car weight. I do not own the searchlight caboose. Hope this helps.

Ogauge, The guy you mentioned that does the custom painting is located in my area. He does very nice work and I’m sure you would be pleased with his product.
