Lionel C&O passenger train

Dear folks

I recently received some C&O Aluminum passenger coachs.

What engine should pull them? I have a yellow-belly but I don’t think Lionel made a C&O F3 or EMD 8or9.

If any one can give me a quick history lesson about the C&O passenger service I would appreciate it.

Regards

Walter Taylor

I’ve been looking through the archives here at the “Fortress Firelock” and I can’t find any photos of a “Yellowbelly” pulling stainless cars, just diesels.

HOWEVER, if a “Yellowbelly’s” all you’ve got, go for it! Go ahead and have it pull those aluminum cars. Hey, it’s your stuff, please yourself and don’t worry about anything else.

A “Yellowbelly” will probably look cool with those cars anyway.

The C&O Yellowbelly was designed specifically for passenger service.

Walt, first off -----> [#welcome].

You are correct, C&O used E8s and E9s on its passenger consists. F units would look better on a small layout.

I use a B&O GP9 “torpedo boat” to pull my Lionel C&O coaches, just like they do on the Potomac Eagle.

Thanks for the info–I know C&O didn’t inaugurate The Chessie Service but maybe I will.

I also like the idea of a B&O pulling C&O cars --very transitional.

Thanks again all three of you.

Regards

Walt.

I’ve used the MTH yellowbelly as well as the Williams C&O E7. Both look real good with the Lionel aluminum cars.

Hey, you can always say the “Yellowbelly” escaped from the B&O Museum in Baltimore and now it’s running excursions!

Here’s a link for ideas:
