I was wondering about lionel catologs. The question was when would a catolog come out,an example would be the 1952 catolog would it have come out in Jan of 1952 or Dec of 1952? and what year would the trains shown in the catolog would come out?

If you are referring to Lionel’s Post War period, they usually released 1 consumer catalog each year and it was released around August of each year.
For the year 1957, to use an example, a “trade”, or advance catalog would be readied for the annual Toy Fair in February, but the consumer catalog would not come out until late summer. It was timed so when kids would get dragged to the department stores for back to school shopping, the catalog would be there (provided the kids made it to the toy department).
Needless to say it was not like the catalog distribution of today.
