Lionel Crossing Signal

I have the Lionel Mainline Auto Crossing Gates (6-14098) and it says in the catalog “Also works with insulated track section sold separately”. I learned how the insulated tracks work from a book and wanted to wire up my crossing gates to one so I wouldn’t have to wire them to the contactor (a BIG pain) and the transformer. But in the manual that came with the gates it says to reffer to the manual you got in the insulated track section. And that’s the problem. I custom-made the insulated track piece, so I don’t know how to wire it up. Does anyone know how these crossing gates would wire up to an insulated track?

Here’s a link to the owner’s manual for an insulated track section. I haven’t tried to post a link before. If it doesn’t work just go the Lionel site, Customer Service, Owners Manuals, and search for insulated track section. It comes right up.

Essentially, if you’re using an accessory transformer with the common sync’d with your track power, all you have to do is hook the power/a from the accessory transformer directly to the gate. Then hook a clip to the insulated track with just one wire to connect the common from the insulated rail to the gate.

If you’re using track power, it’s even easier. You just use a clip on with two wires to go from the insulated track to the gate. make sure you have the outside of the clip on the insulated outside rail.
