I just had an old steam engine refurbished. My dad bought me this used back in 1968 or 1969, so I never knew any history of it. It’s a steam engine, has Pennsylvania on the tender, the number 671 below the window on the cab, and I believe below the headlight is a sticker that says 6300 (or 6200?). It’s wheel configuration is 4-8-4, and I believe it’s a turbine model. Can anyone tell me anymore about this engine, such as the years it was made, etc.?
Thanks Lou - looks like I have the 1952 model - I just happened to write down the model number on my whiteboard here at work before I dropped it off - and it’s 2046W-50, which I believe was written on the bottom of both the engine and the tender. I’ll doublecheck tonight.
That’s the tender number. The Lionel model number of the locomotive is 671. The Pennsylvania Railroad’s number of the prototype was 6200. It was the only example of its type, which was S2. The wheel arrangement is 6-8-6. The prototype tender had 16 wheels, but the Lionel tenders had 8 or 12, depending on the year. The model is also grossly undersized compared to the prototype. Hi Lou,
That’s a great web site, do you know of one that covers Lionel after 1969 [?]
tom
how about pre 1945?
Sorry guys, I’m not aware of any Lionel prewar or modern-era specific websites out there.
Lou
