Thanks for the compliments. Lee, I do not have to clean my FasTrack layout any more than my old Gargraves layout. You are right about the smoke units seeming to leave some residue on the track. I have had this layout operational since February of this year and have had no problems with my switch tracks. The layout runs 3 trains on independant loops and measures 13’10" x 8’6". I will see if I can draw up a track plan and scan it into my computer so that I can post it.
Your layout looks great. I regret not using Fastrack on my new layout, but it was just too pricey for the amount that I needed. I bought an oval of it from a set just to play with it, and it seems to be a very nice product.
I too use FT on my perm. layout, which is in our barn, and no signs of rust after 5 years plus. also…the adapter section to mate FT with O Gauge tubular track works flawlessly, and I use it on my layout. In my Union Stationa area, all the station tracks are regular O gauge ( I might as well use them). Further I have Fastrack that was just purchased yesterday, to pieces from the first year it was sold, and they all mate, and work as they should. I say this as a number of posters have discussed and shown pictures of issues of Real Trax sections from various years that do not allign properly. I also like the fact that FT’s minimum curve is 36’. Ken
Some of the early posts to this thread were deleted for those who are wondering. I too have had no issues with the Fastrack. One thing to be aware of…at some point, there was a manufacturer change, or product change in which some trackbed is a little darker than the rest. To me, it wasn’t a problem, but some folks raised the issue. I have 20 turnouts on my layout and every one works great. Require very little power draw to through the points and they look nice. I have one LED that is out, but that is all. For 19 of the turnouts, I extended the control using Bell Wire. It works very well and is plenty cheap. I also ran seperate power for the turnouts with their power drops to a bus line that I can set at a lower voltage.
