Lionel FT: Is it a good runner?

After a couple years of stonewalling, I’ve dived into toy trains with a vengeance. Being a lover of covered wagons, I decided to pick up a Warbonnet FT that was parted (I assume) from an El Capitan set. Anybody own one of these? Looks pretty good, does it run just as well?

[#welcome] to the asylum !

I have the B&O FT’s from around 2000, not the fastest wagon on the block but will really pull quite a load.

I have the white Burlington AA, an excellant runner.

I did a repair on a friends FT. The plastic gears had excessive wear which caused erratic engine operation. I replaced the gears and it worked fine. Lionel apparently knew that the original gears had problems because the replacement gears were made with a different material.

I have the El Capitan set, along with the B Unit and I also bought another A unit and reversed the wires on the motor to run it in reverse all the time. So it will look A Unit forward then B unit then nose end reverse on the other A unit. Runs and sounds great for a conventional engines. I also got the extra add on cars. Its a great looking 9 car set. Enjoy.

I too have the B&O set with RailSounds and TMCC. Very smooth runners. No Cruise needed.
