It looks like the Williams repro F3 to me. I think it’s the pilot that makes me think that.

Looking at the engine number in the picture, NYC never painted that engine in Lightning Stripe livery, and the 3rd. handrail on the left should be bent… Kidding aside, Thanks for posting, I might even get one and I’m a Santa Fe man.
I thought the flange on the front wheels look looked a little out of scale, too. [:)]
I don’t think it is any cheaper to buy these Ornaments at Kohls, but they always seem to have plenty in stock when compared to our local Hallmark Stores.
You might be right. The photo is so small, but there are 4 portholes on the side, not 2…I guess I have NYC F3s on the brain too often lately.
Buckeye, Noticed the flange, too, but wasn’t sure. I’ve been too busy looking for a picture that would confirm the size of that lift ring…[:)].
That can not be the only LIONEL ornament by Hallmark.
Previously there have been at least one or two more matching items each year.
Is the whole Hallmark Christmas Tree Ornament book much smaller in 2008?

They have only announced a few ornimates so far, only the series it think.
They will probably have a B unit and a an A unit or a coach
I also assume that they will continue the miniatures too.
Well, I guess I have to wait at least another year for a Virginian Trainmaster! I have been collecting the engines since they started (passed on the rolling stock - have to draw the line somewhere) and have enjoyed displaying them every Christmas. Sure wish they would make a NYC tender to match the Hudson which was the first in the series. Guess they didnt know these would be good sellers and didnt think of it back then. This lets me get some of the engines I dont have/cant afford in O gauge.
At one time, they apparently planned a tender for the Hudson, but it never came to be, unfortuantely.
Hallmark has the following Lionel train items:
New York Central locomotive, passenger car, and observation car
Holiday Railroad minature set of 3 - looks like the Holiday green Mikado and tender from last year, and the candy cane single dome tank car (the one with green stripes).
They also have a stocking holder (sits on your mantle and has a hook that you can hang a Christmas stocking on) called Crown Express. It is a steam locomotive, hard to tell from the small picture I saw, but could be a Berkshire or Mikado. It is dark green in color and larger than the locomotive ornament.
There may also be something released as a limited item, but they haven’t announced what those are going to be yet.
