I recently picked up 2 of these engins and 24 ore cars for 200.00 all complete and run fine but no were in the paper work does it say 1/29 or 1/32 any clues.
Hi,
Lionel large scale doesn’t have a specific scale designation like some of the large-scale manufacturers. You can “eyeball” it and run it with other equipment about the same size. Enjoy it–sounds like you’ve found a bargain!
Hi there,
[#welcome] Sounds like you were able to start up for a bargain. Enjoy the forum. Great bunch here. Later eh…Brian.
Heads up Re: Lionel 4-4-2 Atlantic steam engines,
These had a list of potential problem that you might want to be made aware of, send the Forum member by the name Curmudgeon an e-mail, he can give you the skinny on these engines, they had a range of different problems over the course of their production, some engines were fine, others, well…the most common seamed to be split gears and a motorblock thats attached to the frame via a nylon zip tie!
Even if your engine is good now, start getting familiar with the foibles of Lionel quality control. better to be made aware of what can go wrong before it does, THERE ARE CURES FOR THE PROBLEMS. Once fixed these are great looking engines hauling 1/29 cars. I would suggest hauling a maximum 3 passenger cars as these were short express engines.
Its like buying a '63 Jaguar E type, looks really great, until the oil pan drops off, or the Lucas electrical system decides to short out…if you know what can go wrong, you can ready to fix anything that does go wrong…Good luck.[8D]
