Lionel Mikado Jr. Coupler Project

Hey guys, I just finished an up-grade to my Lionel NYC Mikado Jr… This is the same engine I added an Electric Railroad Cruise Commander M to. So she ran great, but still had a naked pilot deck and a stub of metal to represent the front coupler:

So I purchased a coupler lift-bar and stantions from Lionel. These are the parts off a Lionel 0-6-0T. I drilled holes in the deck for the stantions, and then CA’s the stnations in place. I then used my dremel to cut off the goofy looking “coupler” cast into the frame casting, and drilled a hole into the coupler pocket.

Next I hot-melt glued a Kadee “S” scale coupler, and CA’d a coupler chain from the lift bar to the coupler:

The whole project cost around four dollars, and was a lot of fun to do!

Nice job on the upgrade! [:D] I think I just might copy it, if you dont mind.[:-^]

Jon, that is a nice looking upgrade. Like Jason, I may copy your method on a couple of Railkings that I have with similar attempts at a front coupler. Were you able to order those lionel parts from Lionel online? Do you by any chance know the part nos. I have some scale KDs so that is not a problem.

Thanks, John

The coupler lift bar w/stantions is Lionel part #6208613227. And as I mentioned, the coupler is an “S” scale Kadee.

Thanks, Jon. I appreciate the information.
