Lionel Milk Cars

Hey Ya’ll

I know Lionel made 4 versions of the Postwar operating milk car. The one I am interested in is the 3662 milk car made in 1955. Exactly how close is it in size to the 6464 Boxcars?

Here’s a comparison of common post war box cars.

these are ones I had readily available.

the lead car (Pennsylvania) appears to be a bit more stout, however, the balance all appear to be the same size.

Hey,

The Milk Car I am talking about was the one made after 1955 with the brown roof. How does this look with the 6464 boxcars.

Thanks anyway Frank53

The Doctor Is In!!! The car you are speaking of is larger that the older white ones. It may be as large as the 6464’s. I can go into the basement saturday and compare it to the others I have. The repair manual I just looked at calls the car “Scale-dimensioned” Which I take to mean a scale size.

The best I recall, they’re roughly the same size. I’ll have to dig out a 6464, though, and compare.

I don’t have a 3662; but I do have a couple of 6572s, which have the same body. The 3662 is only 1/8 inch wider and taller than a 6464, and 5/8 inch longer. Although the 3662 was touted as a scale model, it is not by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks,

I geuss I am One who cares about how the train looks. I want it to be realistic in size, I like trains a be realistic to some extent, but, still be simple. the smaller Scout and Pre-1953 or whenever 6464’s were produced aren’t in the cars for my layout.
