I recently purchased the Lionel Lionmaster N & W class A steamer. If I didn’t know better it has a gremlin inside of it.
The speed control system is extremely erratic. When powered up (conventional mode) the engine will sometimes pull out at a crawl. When trying to clear the odyssey system it takes several attempts to finally suceed. When I finally achieve the speed I want and set the system, it will revert back to the “crawl” whenever I change the engine’s direction. Again it takes quite awhile to clear the speed control all over again![:(!] I have a medium size layout and use M.T.H.'s Z-4000 transformer. Does anyone out there have any clues as to my problem, I really hate to send the engine back. Other than this problem the engine runs and sounds great.[:)]
I recently purchased a 2-8-0 Consolidation with TMCC & Odyssey & it, too, had problems in conventional mode. I also experienced a crawling locomotive, but the thing wouldn’t to go into neutral or reverse, so I couldn’t even try to clear the speed settings.
I had to send the unit back to the store I bought it from while I was on vacation (a 4 hour drive away) and they sent me a replacement in a different railroad livery. The new unit runs fine.
I hope you get your problem resolved soon!
Tony
There’s been quite a bit of discussion on this topic on the other magazine’s forum, ogaugerr.com. You might want to do a search on their forum under “Odyssey”, seems that there has been quite a few problems with conventional running Odyssey, also some mention of Z4000 compatibility.
