Lionel Phateon III legend

Can anyone supply more information that the short blurb on the Lionel clock? [?] My girlfriend asked me and I have drawn a blank trying to google the answer. Was this a fantasy engine or is there some truth to the Pratt’s Hollow MO reference???[?]

No, I remember when that came out & it was all just fantasy !

Thank you very much. I like to think i remember somethings. I did not remember any historical reference to the Pratt’s Hollow, MO reference. Some one has a link to a post at this site with pictures of this engine and cars under there tree. He’s a lucky dog.[:)]

The Pratt’s Holow story is fiction, created to give the weird, “retro-futuristic” train a backstory.

And I thought it was Phantom, not Phateon.

…to add to Ogaugeoverlords comments …and if, instead of looking like dancing baloney, the cars had been articulated to match the sweep of the original engine…

Or as we say in the Burgh…dancing Jumbo.[:D][:D] I always thought that the passenger car lines should have followed the engine as well. Too bad could of been even cooler. I have the original set. I like 'em except for the lack of pulling power.

The 3rd offering of the phantom is I think still in several of the larger dealers close out lists.

Without looking, I seem to remember them selling the engine with the cars for about $400 or a little more.

I don’t know if the sounds were different at all for the 3 versions of the phantom, but I suspect they are really similar if not identical.

If anyone is willing to admit having all 3 versions and can verify, let’s hear it![;)]

I have the original Phantom. I like it. a lot.

Farmer Bill bought the White 3rd generation Phantom and ran it in my layout. His new one had some new features: a red blinker in the upper cab, and a expanded set of erie sounds…I believe it has traction tires too.

A couple of years ago, I ordered a new power truck from Lionel that came with traction tires. It was an easy swap, and now my Phantom pulls the four car passenger set with no trouble on my Realtrax. Cost me $20 for the new truck.

I missed out on that new truck and I don’t think Lionel has 'em anymore. I believe Norm had come up with a solution to the blinking under the red cab. You may want to visit his site or ask him on the MTJ forum.

I would love to get hooked up with one of those trucks. BTW if I’m not mistaken you and I were looking for the Phantom at the same time

Yeah, you and me and some others were sucked in to Phantom fever by the CTT long term review of the Phantom in CTT, and Norm C’s Phantom pics on his website.

I found mine on Ebay.

I don’t want the blinker that the new one has, as I like to keep my locos in factory made condition as much as possible.

I think the original Phantom is becoming a collectors item.

The power truck with traction tires that I used is Lionel Part number 6-10-8516-150. I bought it directly from Lionel May of 2003 for $16.

I bought two: one for the Phantom and on for my Happy Holidays Geep. The swap was easy, no soldering required. After the swap, both single pullmor motered locos are stump pullers on all track systems, ferrous or non-ferrous.

Call or email Lionel, these may be in stock now.
