If you had the choice between a choice 2354 or newer style Santa Fe frieght colored F3 or Rio Grande Postwar Celebration Series F3 - which would you pick. I thinned out my collection and now I want just a few diesels. What would you do. I have a mix of postwar rolling stock and accesories and I love the feel but I’m scared to run them on the tile floor under the tree. The Blue and Yellow Santa Fe’s I think are cool and the Rio Grande is a great remake. TMCC and Railsounds are not on the top of my list. What to do…
post war every time, particularly if as you said - command control and rail sounds ar enot a big deal to you. You cannot go wrong with good post war material. In 50 years it will still be running, while the modern stuff will be littering landfills.
So 2354 is the way to go!? Its really near mint - I have owned 3 2353’s 2343’s all they got onld to me after a while. This set is really nice and I hope its a better choice than the LTI Santa Fe’s.
I agree with Frank. Anything postwar is better than the modern production and it was also made of high quality in the USA. As Frank says, it will be running in 50 years, the new stuff will probably not.

I agree 100%. These are toys so buy what you like and there is no need to have people tell you what to buy. I have several LN/liner/boxed/paper work postwar F-3s that I run. I have several MPC mid 70’s F-3’s that I run and I have several postwar celebration series F-3s I run. I love them all.
And you know something they all run the same. The only diference is the quality of the graphics and paint are 100x better on a MPC and PWC engines. The problem you get when asking is that everyone has opinions. The postwar guys (like myself) pay high prices for nothing more then old memories and nostolgia. Thats it and if anyone tells you anything else they are fooling themselves. For the new stuff if they yell “china crap” or “over seas junk” that because they are ignorant. If you want unsurpassed painting, no 1950’s buzzing E-unit and realistic sounds then get a new one. it’s your call! If you prefer memories of a time passed and can deal with old technology then go postwar.
I have never had a problem with ANY of my modern era engines. And I have had barely any problems with my true postwars as well (probably because they never have been only slightly run)

geez - that was a lot of searching, cutting and pasting. [%-)]
Frank 53,
With high speed cable, WORD as template, it took me less than one minute to do the folloing from your profile:
It helps that I can type pretty quick too. [:D]
OK, more directly - what’s the point?
Why go to even a minute’s worth of cutting and pasting to try and make a guy look foolish for asking people’s opinion? Isn’t that what these forums are for - a polite exchange of opinions, suggestions and ideas?
The point is:
FEClionel from your past posts on the forum, you seem to have a great deal of difficulty making choices. Here’s the answer: Do what you want to do. Period. The end.
HAVE FUN…They are just toys. Nice toys, but just toys. You can’t make a bad choice if you in the end are happy.
thanks for making my point.
You’re welcome.
I think the horse is officially dead - but by all means keep beating it if it does something for you. ![]()
Giddy up.
The Doctor is in!!! Gentlemen, The Point is: FECLionel has a hard time chosing what he wants and is seeking help. This is not a bad thing, the bad thing is to Pick On Him for Asking for help!!! Since when are we Perfect Beings ??? To quote someone; “Let Him That Is Without Sin, Cast The First Stone !” Unless We were made sinless, we are all guilty, Judge not our brother, Lest someone else judge you. Some of you remind me of members of the magic club I belong to: They feel that they are better than everyone else, And They have no problem saying so! I say, Let’s get back to helping each other and stop making Judgements Untill We are Perfect. Which I heard does not happen till we die !. Sermon over, I give you peace.

Hello FEC! Check with Fred Sipple of Erie,Pa. Hopefully you still have his phone# & Address. Anyway, maybe he still has The Blue & Yellow F3 that you mentioned above in your first post. Also, his prices are unbeatable for new stock Lionel Trains from the 80s & 90s. Check and see if he has any other F3s in stock that you may be interested in. Good Luck.
Fred is great I have purchased a couple of hard to find item! Thanks!!!
I see Buckeye edited out all of his continued repeats of FEC’s comparison posts.
True statement.
