Lionel Sawmill #12873

I recently purchased a Lionel Sawmill #12873 to use with my Lionel Lumber Car #3451. It seems as if the sawmill is too high to receive the dumped logs. Is this the nature of the beast and I will have to load the logs buy hand or am I doing something wrong.

Thanks

You’ve got it right. I’ve seen this accessory served by a stub end siding with the roadbed raised in front enough to unload into it, ir you could lower the sawmill below grade to match.

Thanks. I thought that was the problem. The accessory is fine without the dump car. Do all their sawmills have the same problem or is it unique to this model? To me it doesn’t make any sense. They could have sold more log cars by making the receiving bin on the sawmill just a little lower.

I’ve got a Lionel sawmill (older version) with the track on cork roadbed and the sawmill on the plywood and it has no problems.

You didn’t mention your track system. I use tubular “O” and have had no problems. I imagine it was designed with “O” or “Super-O” in mind.

Jon,

I use tublar O also, but just doesn’t seem to be the right fit. Very strange.

Thanks,

Ed
