Lionel Set info please

A local antique shop has a Lionel set. I do American Flyer and know nothing of Lionel.4 It was made up of a 2037 & 6026T, 6017, 6014, 6012, & 6015. He had the boxes and set box and they were OK. Typically, he said I don’t know trains as to the value. Not that I would buy them, but out of curiosity what would be the value? Any info as to date would be interesting. They looked very nice. I don’t know Lionel but they appear to be a low end set. Any info about them would be nice.

Jim,

Looks like this is set # 1513S from 1954-55. Price guide quotes, Excellent $175 Like New $300. Hope this helps

Bruce Webster

Jim,

That would be outfit #1513S O27 4-car Freight, cataloged from 1954-55. David Doyle’s Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains (2004) valued the set at $175 (Exc) and $300 (LN) and assigned a rarity rating of 1 (very common). Most of the value is for te 2037 and tender, rather than the cars.

Thanks guys, your answer confirmed about what I expected. I know very little about lionel and knew someone here could provide the information

Thanks again

Jim

Jim,

Personally, I’d look elsewhere if you want a 2037. After the comment the dealer made to you, he doesn’t deserve your money. I would have told him that he doesn’t know customer service, then headed for the door. Antique dealers usually see the Lionel name and overprice the item anyway.

According to Greenberg’s price guide the only item that may have high value is the 6015 tank car if it is painted, excellant condition(NO scratches and looks like brand new)about $110.00. The unpainted version is listed at $9.00.

Hope this helps. Like others have mentioned; antigue shops price Lionel trains at super high prices because it is Lionel!! I looked at Lionel in an antigue shop in Jupiter FL and they wanted almost three times the Greenberg price guide value for something and I told the store clerk that and still the shop kept it at that price, it was still there several weeks later.

I am going to be off Thursday and I may walk over and let him know about what would be a fair price. He was asking $600 which I knew was WAY too much but I did not know how much not knowing Lionel.

Thanks again

Jim

Don’t waste your time. Yes, $600 is wayyyyyyyy too high for a common low end 027 set. Not even worth negotiating. That’s why he’s telling you, you don’t know trains. If he’s willing to be such a schmuck, he’s probably willing to hit it with touch-up brush. I’d pass for sure. You can find it all at train shows or ebay in decent condition easily and put together a set for $200.

i am looking for some info ona train set that was my stepdads when he was a kid… its still in the box and it looks complete… it is a Lionel HO outfit no. 5713…somebody is interested in buying it, and i dont want to get ripped off…any info would help…

THANKS!!

Roger

I just checked my Greenberg’s Pocket Price guide for Lionel Trains 1901 to 2006 and nothing is in there on Lionel H.O.

Maybe another publication covers that.
