This is partly inspired by the F&SM talk going on. Just wondering who else loves this layout. For some reason, I think this may be my favorite layout ever. His logo and paint scheme was perfect. Something hit me when I read that article when it first came out. The (way too) few pictures published served to ignite my love affair with the RS-1, coal railroading, and the color green. I have always been dying to see more of his work.
However, I’ve been digging through my old MR’s lately, and I’ve re-discovered the whole Workin’ On The Railroad series that went on where Lionel tore out a major mine and installed run-around tracks on the rest. On top of this, he seems to have changed the paint scheme for his engines 
With all of this said, I think its high-time that MR did an update on his layout. Its a HUGE shame that Allen Keller never got to the original layout before the changes were made… it seems all I’ll ever have for the rest of my life are the, what, 5 pictures they published in that article, plus maybe 4 or 5 more Trackside Photos that were published of his roster with its original paint scheme.
