I am looking at purchasing a new Legacy TMCC controler (the basic starter kit), and I would like to know if MTH, Williams, and Atlas locomotives will work with this system?

The answer is a qualified ‘yes’
MTH, Williams, and Atlas locos will only operate in Conventional mode with the Legacy System. MTH PS2 locos require DCS to take advantage of all PS2 features. DCS and Legacy can function on the same layout together without problem. Williams and Atlas locos would need to be upgraded to TMCC to take advantage of everything TMCC has to offer.
Not sure about MTH’s features but it will run everything else. Call Wild Bills in Clinton Twp. Mi… Burt can tell you anything you need to know.
So conventional mode means I operate at the transformer and it does not interfere with the Lionel legacy system? Or conventional mode as in it operates emergency stop, speed, direction, horn, bell and thats it…
Can DCS and Legacy operate on the same track together?
What system is used for the Atlas and Williams loco’s. Ebay says these locos are TMCC equiped out of the package… but I did not believed it…

Atlas 3 rail engines are about 95% TMCC equipped from the factory, whereas Williams is strictly, at present, an after market upgrade.

To the best of my knowledge ALL Williams locomotives MUST be updated to TMCC or DCS after being purchased. Williams did not install any TMCC or DCS control systems in their locomotives!!
With Bachman now owning the company things may have changed but that is the way it was before Williams sold out to Bachman.

Yes. The two system use entirely different technologies and do not interfere with each other.
