Lionel water tower #38

Howdy all, computer problems, so I’m not on much, but should be remedied tomorrow. Does anyone currently make an operating water tower? The type that appears to empty such as the Lionel # 38? Thanks to all, Jake

I’m pretty certain that if you want the type that appears to empty you must go with the Lionel reissue.

But I’ve read and heard that there have been some rust/corrosion problems with the reissue. I would search the other forum for these posts. You must used distilled water and others have taken extra precautions.

I have the original, and I admit, I have never tried to use it with the water feature. I did illuminate it however, and it looks neat as a a pin on the layout.

The #38 reissue from Lionel, LLC is often up for grabs on eBay. The original #38 had corrosion problems back in the late 40’s. The new one is built just like the old one in that respect!

The rust/corrosion problem is the result of using tap water. To avoid this, use distilled water. Unlike tap water, distilled water has no impurities. The impurities in tap water cause the rust/corrosion. Use blue food coloring to color the water.

Thanks to all that responded, much appreciated, Jake
