Lionel West Side Lumber Co.opinion?

Hi GUYZ,
I have been offer to purchase a Lionel West Side Lumber Co. Shay and want to know a little about this before purchase. It was built in 1999 or 2000 and has TMCC, it’s number is 6-28022. Was wondering if any of you have one and could give a quick review of it. Thanks for your time.

Hi Laz, I posted on other forum but will repeat here too. the shay your looking at is a good runner I have the elk river shay but it does have to be on 054 or preferably bigger as the shaft from tender to back gear assembly will fall out of its slot. the other thing to watch for is the gearing assembly tends to loosen up I fixed mine with a dab of lock tight and haven’t had trouble since. the tender has a tendency to track cook eyed like the old frame cars that got in an accident and bent the frame thus tracking down the highway crosswise. if you can deal with that its a real nice engine to operate and the whistle is a real high pitched schrill the log cars are a nice touch too.

Laz … I have the westside # 6-28022 … shay … works perfect and no problems whatsoever ! Fabulous engine … yep … you have to run it on the correct size curves though … as with many engines … I have all O72 curves though … my shaft never fell out here . Test ran it for over 28 hours … steady each time average 6 hours continiously … 4 days … no cars - 11 cars - all different speeds … flawless … even with diecast cars . It was warrantied so i wanted to give her a good test . My tender runs straight … Trainz peaked it and adjusted everyting though .

If you decide not to buy and it’s a terrific deal … I’m open for another one to buy … [:-^] LOL .

Thanks GUYZ for all the advice. I think I’’ buy it and see for myself. This one is MIB and was never run on track. Thanks again,

Hi GUYZ,

After reading the posts on other forum, I opted for the new Cass Scenic Shay. The GUYZ had points that were made and the big thing that swayed me to this unit was that it come with synchronized chuff and cruise control. Both I really like. I do have both 0-54 and 072 for it to stretch its legs on. I’ll let you know how it runs. Thanks for the input.

Thanks again GUYZ for all the info on this great train. I just received a call from a woman TCA member who was perusing the forum and ran across this thread. She called me a wanted to know if I was still intersted in the Lionel Cass Scenic Shay? I said yes, and made a deal on the phone. She cannot run this on her layout and wanted to sell it to someone who would enjoy it as much as she would if her layout could handle it. I should be getting it next week? Will take some pics and post when it is finally on layout. Again thank you for all the good info.
