I was sifting through some files on the computer and came across a game titled Lionels Traintown. I currently have the deluxe version but i am wondering if there are any add-ons avalible on the net. I did the installation and it showed cars that were in different schemes not in the game. Is the game any good? are there downloadable cars on the net?
I had that same game. The grafics are OK. And some the switching is unrealistic. But it is a substute for running real trains.
I play that sometimes when I don’t have time to work on the layout. When I’m working a job, the layout goes on the back burner. Thankfully, the job ends Friday and I’ll be able to get back to my layout again. As for add-ons on-line, I’ve never checked.
i also have it but havent played that one in awhile
I have not been able to get it to work well on an operating system beyond Windows 98. I lose part of the screen.
The last that I check, the software company that developed Traintown was taken over by another company. The successor company has not developed a new version of the program; nor do they support any version of the software. This, at least, is my understanding.
If anyone knows differently, would you please share it on the forum?

Thats strange because my operating system is Windows Vista. It is probably your screen settings. My monitor is a widescreen and it presents no problems. Try going into control panel and hit visual settings which will let you adjust the screen resolution and others.
My local library has this game available to check out. It works fine on my laptop running XP.
My 10 year old son likes the part where you push the explosive cars over the hump for sorting. Although he doesn’t sort so well, he does a great job blowing them up.
HAHAHA! I got a great idea for your son! Tell him to put the switcher on the left of the arrows (hump). Then tell him to uncouple the engine from the cars and keep uncoupling from left to right. BIG EXPLOSION/DERAILMENT! Outta make him laugh!
I tried it and had great results (kept on saying “Thats a fender bender!” with every try [swg]).
I think I still have that cute little game. It ran well on my XP machine.
It did a good job for what it is, running a trainset kid style with a little bit of operation if I recall correctly.
But I suspect that train games are kind of difficult to get just right. I fly online with FSX Deluxe from time to time trying to get a 747 from A to B under someone’s ATC pretending that I am a airline pilot, but it is pretty “Thick”
I think we need more of these light hearted games, I think Sid Meyer created “Railroads” not too long ago that did a good job except he forgot the tenders for the steam engines.
