Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this engine. Bought it 2 weeks ago and right out of the box the railsounds kept shutting down and the running lights would not work. They fixed it. ( Loose wire for the lights) When I got it back I was running it for about 45 minutes in TMCC when she would not respond to throttle commands. Tried running it in conventioal mode. Just foward and reverse no nuetrel and then “POP SIZZLE” and tons of smoke from the middle of the engine and a horrible smell. Then nothing it wouldn’t move at all. Went back to the dealer and dropped it off again. I checked my TMCC and all the other engines work normal. I’m just running it on tubular track (O-42) and a ZW with TMCC hooked up per the manual instructions.
I have had mine probably 4-5 months now at a guess, just run in convntional mode I don’t have TMCC yet. No problems, runs GREAT. I am even Happy with the smoke unit on mine, a nice amount of smoke without being overwhelming. I have some MTH units that the smoke units work too good on, run em for 10-15 minutes and it looks just like a bar room.

Sounds to me that when they fixed your initial problem they caused a frame short and the TMCC Command Board is now fried… had this happen to my Christmas Berk a year or so ago… once Lionel sends a new board and they install it have them run it on their test track before you take it home.
Just got it back from the shop today and was asked if it derailed when I ran it. They said there was a couple of wires that looked like they grounded out and shorted out a board. I don’t remember her causing a short or derailing but anyway they said since I’m running a old pre-war zw I should get a newer transformer with a faster breaker. I was thinking of trying this inline fuse thing thats in the new CTT. So I haven’t run her yet going to Radio Shack tommorow to get these “fast blowing fuses” wish me luck.
