I am considering buying a lionmaster class a. Was just wondering if any of you guys have one, and if so what do you think? Also how is the quality and reliability? Thanks.[?]
Good question. I have been think the same.
Lionmaster quality is very good. Detailing is superb, and the sound package is excellent. Although a little heavy on the price side, they are good engines.

And then there is the other side of the coin in which I received my Pennsylvania T-1 Duplex DOA (Dead on arrival). Had to be sent back to Lionel. They fixed it, but it was WEEKS getting it back. So, you see there are always two sides to the coin. My rule of thumb is: “If you like it, buy it.” Don’t worry about anything you hear because it will either run or it won’t. Everything can be fixed.
I purchased the lionmaster Class A several months ago. The detailing and the railsounds are great. The engine will pull whatever you put behind it.
Now for the negative side. In conventional mode the engine gave me fits. It would slip in and out of the Odyessy mode when I cut power to stop or change directions. I would then have to spend the next fifteen minutes trying to clear the speed control.
The engine with the speed control engaged would crawl though. Setting the speed contol was easy but clearing it was a nightmare!
I installed DCS/TMCC recently and the engine runs wonderfully now, absolutely zero problems. I would beware buying the engine to run conventionally, using command it is wonderful.
good luck
I have one, great loco… looking to sell as well (hint hint)
