I see this product for sale on ebay. Has anyone tried it and what do you think of its claims? What is the best lubricant to use on trains and wheels? [?]
I’ve still got a couple of small tubes of Lionel gear grease from the late 50’s which I use on my postwar locomotives. A little dab will do ya!
I hesitate to use the old lube on the modern plastic gears, so I’ve recently picked up aome LaBelle gear lube for the gears and some of their light oil for wheels, axles, and armataures. These products are advertised as being plastic friendly. So far, so good.
I’ve also used good old 3 in 1 on wheels, axles, and armatures over the years, again, with no apparrent ill effects.
I’ll repeat that a little goes a long way. I remember reading somehwere that if you could see where you oiled, you’ve applied too much. Wipe off the excess.
I now use Labelle grease and oil only. #107 oil is best for armatures and wheels. The grease has teflon in it and will not sling off like Lionel grease will.
