Hello I was rail fanning yesterday and seen a couple things I thought could be modeled. Please add to the list. There are members from all over here and I thought it would be cool to see some of the little stuff from your loco yards, sidings, etc The first 2 are a switch heater
Hello I think this one was designed in the 80’s but not to sure. I was looking around for some and seen some that looked like piping around the rail. I think it was from the 50’s? I seen a drawing for a electric one from the 30’s ? The one in the photo is a forced air gas heater. It’s on a NS line just out side of cleveland. Have a nice day Frank
Eary switch heaters were fire pots placed under the points by the signal maintainer. These were later replaces with gas powered switch heater - there is usually as propane or LPG tank nearby. I remember gas switch heaters in the late 50’s/early 60’s. At the same time, some plants still had fire pots.
