Live Action Sound

I have a ‘Live Action Sound Unit’ manufactured by QSIndustries that has decided to stop working after several years of service. This is a sound module that is powered by a 9 volt battery and played various sounds that were imbedded in the unit. The sounds I chose were horses and cows and I had the unit mounted in a cattle car. The on/ off switch is very interesting; a 360 degree pendulum of sorts mounted above a hole in the circuit board. The rim of the hole is lined with metal so that every time the pendulum made contact, the power came on momentarily. An interesting design benefit, the rougher the train ride is for the animals, the more agitated they sounded since the pendulum would make more frequent on/ off contacts.

Anyway, a long story to get to the point – Does anyone know of a similar available product? I am looking for something that does not require track power or DCC control to activate. Apparently, according to QSIndustries’ website, they do not make this product anymore.

QSI was the only one with the pinball type switch. Did you try cleaning the lead pendulum? I have had to do this on mine over time. Jim

Thanks for the feedback. I will try cleaning the pendulum.

And that, gentlemen, is the key as to why it is no longer made! “Lead” What company could make something today from lead without 17 bazillion $$$$ in insurance coverage from all the sue happy citizens of the world and the envrionmentalists & Health nuts who purport to protect us from ourselves!
