how are LL RTR GONDOLAS?
are they worth the buy or not, they’re dirt cheap where i saw them (3 bucks a pop)
hows the detail comparable to athearn BB kits or better?
thanks a mil
LL Proto 2000 are definitely better detailed than the Athearn BB, I am guessing that this what you are talking about, if so go for it you won’t be disappointed at $3 a pop.
At $3 a pop, if they are really Lifelike Proto 2K gondolas RTR, snap them up that is an amazing price for a really good model. However, I would be amazed if they are P2K and would suspect that they are standard LifeLike. These have crude detail, are under weight and are not all that good. I have some of them, and they can make decent models with some upgrades to couplers and wheels. I like to use them for experiment with load modelling and weathering.
Based on the price, I’m guessing they are from Life-Like’s standard line. There are some LL standard cars at my LHS for the same price.
The cars look decent, but they have truck mounted horn-hook couplers and 1-piece plastic axles that only roll about average and have over-sized flanges. If you can body-mount some Kadees to it and replace the wheels, you should have some pretty decent cars.[:D]
what i do with any car is up grade as far as i possibly can, metal wheels, mc henry couplers and some weights also i’ve just learned how to weather cars so i plan to practice and i think they would be good for practice. how can i make a body mounted coupler?
The cheap and easy way to do it is put the coupler in a Kadee plastic box and super-glue it in place, while making sure it’s at the right height by adding plastic shims. This works well for me. So far, any glue failures were my fault.[:D]
In no way are those P2k for $3 unless someone is playing Santa Claus.
