Load for Center Beam Gondola

I see plenty of empty center beam gondolas on the CN (fka Wisconsin Central), but have yet to see one with a load. What is carried on these? How are they loaded?

Thanks,
Tony

They carry bundles of building material, plywood, sheathing, lumber, etc. Most of the load will be in bundles 4 ft wide, and 2-4 ft thick and as long as the material. Jaeger made paper wrappers you put around blocks of wood to make it look like the wrapped bundles of lumber. the bundles are stacked on the car against the center beam and then tie down straps are put pver the load and it is secured.

I think Walthers do a model of these loads to fit their center-beam flatcars - hope this is of use!

I recently bought out a dealer’s stock of flat car Jaeger loads, He had a large amount of center beam wrapped lumber loads. I did not get any (he had like 12 availiable)

This was at a recent train meet in Little Rock, I believe the dealer is out of Texarkana. Maybe he will still have some left.

Best of luck

There are a lot of kits for lumber loads (wrapped and unwrapped) available in N scale Brooklyn Locomotive Works (on line N scale train store) is a good source.
Most are made from photos of real loads and are very realistic.

I know there were some in HO several years ago and have seen some O-scale recently.
