"Local Boy Makes Good"

Great Model Railroads 2014 just arrived in yesterday’s mail and it features a familiar name and face for Forum regulars, Dave Vollmer and his N scale Pennsylvania Railroad layout. He should be congratulated as it (the layout that is [;)] ) looks great in the magazine in spite of its modest footprint and portability.

There is much good stuff in GMR '14 besides that, including the latest version of the V&O.

Go Dave, go!!!

Not only is the layout great, Dave’s “Classic Model Railroading” magazine wannabe was a comedic gem.

Vollmer’s N Scale layout is one of the best I’ve seen for its size.

Congrats Dave!

It’s one of the best…period.

Yes indeed for its size…

There are far better larger N Scale layouts period.

I judge N Scale layouts by their size group as it should be.

Guess I’d better pick the book, up not just for the juniata sub, hehehe there’s a layout in there that piqued my interest.

Gary,If memory serves Dave’s layout was also featured in one of the N Scale magazines-iirc N Scale Magazine.A good read.

I may have to check, though I will admit the SP&S one is the one that piqued my interest in the book.

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

Having devoured MR since before I could read the words, I’ve always dreamed of someday making the pages. This year I had the privilege of making both GMR 2014 and Trackside Photos. All that said, I owe any success I’ve had at all to techniques developed by others and by feedback through Internet forums, to say nothing of a now 20-year old trackplan done by Lou Sassi for MR. Working with the MR staff was easy and fun, and I really appreciate Paul Dolkos’ time and talent in photographing the layout.

If I were eligible to retire from the Air Force right now I’d be very, very tempted to answer that Kalmbach job ad up top!!!

Dave … Congratulations for being in Great Model Railroads!
