Anyone know where the air horn on a NYC Baldwin VO-660 switcher is located? I just received a Stewart VO-660 and want to install the air horn in the right location. Is it in the middle, towards the rear, closer to the cab?

I am looking at ‘New York Central System Diesel Locomotives’ by William Edson. On pages 22 & 23 are pictures of the VO-660. No horn is pictured! Perhaps is was mounted behind the grill.

Wyandotte Terminal RR unit at Illinois Railroad Museum has a double horn roughly centered on the hood (a couple inches more toward the right side ladder) and the back of the horn is within 3 or 4 inches from the glass in the front of the cab. I’d bet money it has been used like another grab iron when coming up off the ladder. It’s very short and is probably hidden from ground shots. I would send images if I knew how, some of ya’ll obviously figured that one out. I’ve tried, how’s it work?

In order to post pictures, you need to set up an account with a web host - e.g. like Railimages.com. (The one with Railimages.com is FREE.) You upload your pictures there then copy the photo’s URL (or photo’s web address on your host’s web site) and paste it into your post here, sandwiched between [“img”] and [“/img”] - minus the quotation marks. If you right click the picture in my post, and click “Properties”, you will see where the photo is located at next to “Location”. It’s actually fairly easy to do.
