Locked Topics?

Can somebody tell my why on the “new and improved” forum that some topics become “Locked” so that you cannot contribute to the thread? For example, check out this thread:

http://www.trains.com/TRC/CS/forums/871003/ShowPost.aspx

I’d like to contribute to this thread but can’t because the normal “Reply” and “Quote” buttons are gone and the new “Locked” icon is there. I’ve noticed this on a couple of other threads as well. Anybody have any clues as to why this happens? Could it be an administrative action by the forum operators? If so, why is this thread an offending one?

Food for thought.

No one likes me Ed. I believe someone started a new post to reply to mine. He doesn’t seem to be locked.

It does look like people can lock there own postings. I had no intention of doing this in http://www.trains.com/TRC/CS/forums/871003/ShowPost.aspx

Maybe the last poster is checking that box that says “do not allow replies” down there in the left corner of the reply page, let’s test that?

Yeah you locked yours and imlocking mine

Just jump up the page and reply to somebody else eh? LOL.

Ahh I must of done that. It doesn’t seem to stay selected when I post.

And when I lock it, YOU can’t quote me hehehe.

Interesting. Very interesting indeed.

You can’t edit your post when you lock it either.

Cute Fred. hehe

Somebody find me a key!

I guess this feature could be handy…my wife could use it to ensure she gets in the last word [:D]

I can see it now.

To do list:
Mow the lawn
Clean the garage
Weed the garden
Paint the fence
Feed the dogs
Wash my car

Let me know if you have a problem with any of this…

Boy, some of you people are really slow! I locked a reply on day three of this new forum and shortly thereafter realized there was a minor error in my post; when I went back to edit it, wallah, couldn’t get in. About 24 hours later I observed that, when editing, the check mark keeps clicking off an on in that box while you are typing and it suddenly dawned on me what “do not allow replies” meant; the only way you can eliminate replies is to lock your post up.

Ve git too soon olt and too late schmart!!!

Uh-oh!!! I almost locked you’se turkeys out of my reply!!
