Does anyone know if an Auto Parts store or Wal-Mart would have a plastic compatible grease that could be used in the Loco gear boxes? I really don’t want to order online and wait a week to get it so if I could get it locally that would be great. My nearest LHS is not too Local as in 75 miles away. Thanks for any help.
KeyDiver - We just moved up to Gainesville from Marathon about a year ago. I taught Scuba for 14 yrs. Was excited about moving to Gainesville as they had about six Train hobby shops. Now they have none. The nearest is in Ocala about 75 miles away. Its as bad as it was in the Keys driving all the way to Miami to RTR for train stuff. One by one they have all closed shop up here.
You could try some automatic transmission fluid. These transmissions do have plastic pieces in them. Try little dabs off a toothpick. Then the next time you are close to the LHS get some LaBelle 106 light grease with teflon. A little goes a long way! You might also check at a sewing machine store although you would have to be careful here. I guess I’m getting old but I think I would probably wait till I could get the right lube so I wouldn’t endanger a locomotive…
