Loco information

Greetings all,

I am trying to track down information on an old Steamer.
It is NP #1661.
it was a Class W-1 2-8-2.

I would like to find out as much about it as possible, service history, final resting place, photo’s, etc…
I have found little about it out there.
I am planning on modeling the sugar beet area of eastern Montana and was told that it once worked there.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could obtain all this info?

I can possibly help when I get home to Missoula tomorrow. I have a book that includes a lot of that type of info. Stay tuned.

Google for the Museum of the Rockies and look through the R. V. Nixon collection of NP locomotive photos. You may find some help there.

I didn’t find any info on #1661, BUT, I did find some of the other loco #'s I was looking for. Hurray!!

Any NP Fan that has not looked at the R.V. NIxon photo collection is really missing out.
Plus Kudos to the Museum of the Rockies for organizing it so well. You can search the collection by Location, Date, Loco#, it’s amazing…

P.S. the collection has many other roads in it as well. I was especially thrilled to see this as the area that I model features both NP & GN.
