LOCO KIT i WANT TO BUY

Hers the link to a Locomotive building kit I found on E-bay I would like to know if this would be a good deal at $20.00, and how hard this would be to put toghter,I have never done one before but i do have several years of model Building expereance any advice you could give would be appriciated http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270203034294&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

I don’t have any experience with MDC steam engines, but I’ve heard that except for the Shay, they’re not too hard to build. $20 is a pretty good price, but remember that bidding may drive it up in the blink of an eye.

Hey Orange, These kits can be very hard to build or really easy, it depends on skill, and patience. I have built about 7 of them over the years. I like to build them though, MDC made these for years but quit a few years back and went to the RTR. the price they are asking is very cheap, if your up for the challenge then go for it. Detailing them is also fun, so keep that in mind.

Looks very neat. would mind tring one myself i have to keep and eye open.

good luck on biddin

I have a 2-8-0 kit that I have completed the running gear and chassis. I got side tracked and have not gotten back to finish it. The Drive gear that mates to the motor worm gear on mine, had the hole off center which made it bind up. I called the manufacturer and they sent me another one at no cost. The loco now runs very nice. The kit is not all that difficult to build either. Twenty dollars is a great price. I paid about $90.00 for mine.

The 2-6-2 Kit is a Santa Fe prototype. $20 and shipping isn’t excessive. This kit isn’t a shake the box kit. It would be a great project to build it but is going to be a project and not just a put together. Have Fun!!

thanks to all who responded i went ahead and got this kit i will keep you all informed of my progress And a santa fe to boot just what i wanted,

thanks again

OTM,

This is just a little advice when it comes to ebay items and the forum here. Finding great deals on ebay can be an awesome break. If you have questions about a particular item though, you might just want to give the description of the item instead of a direct link to the listing. If the deal you find is truly worth it, you may find that someone here on the forum (or anywhere you post your questions) might beat you to it or you may also find yourself in a bidding war for said item and potentially lose out on a great deal. I don’t see it happening often, but I’m sure it does and has. Well that’s my [2c] about that matter, and let us know how you make out with your new project.

If you can find one a copy of “Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail” by Worley is an excellent book for the ATSF people out there. The book has been out of print for many years and the last price was about $200.

The book would be an excellent resource for detailing and painting the model.
