Does anyone know of a decent FT resin cast body, or at least casting parts for an FT… I have an old Roco/Con Cor F3a. its dimensionally off a bit so I’ve been googlin’ for resin items . It’s wasn’t in the best of shape when I received it; missin’ truck frames/Pilot etc.
Anyone have any ideas of what else could be done with the chassis?
Both MicroTrains and Intermountain made FTs in N scale. I don’t know what the parts situation is, but you may be able to pick a whole one up cheap. But then again, either version of these FTs will run much better than your Roc/CC F3a, so it kind of makes the kitbash moot…
But I would check with MTL or Intermountain first to see if they’ll sell you parts.
Long before either Micro-Trains or Intermountain came out with their RTR FTs if you wanted “The Diesel That Did It” in N-Scale you had to go to JnJ Trains to get it. If you don’t want - or can’t get - a separate FTA/FTB body shell from Micro-Trains or Intermountain you are going to have to go to JnJ Trains to get one.
The old (flakey) owner of JnJ trains brought his circus on the road to a get together in either Phoenix or San Diego in 1988 but I don’t remember there being an FT in their line-up at that time. The next time I encountered JnJ was when the new owners brought their circus to St Louis in '01; at that time I took some time to examine their current product line and found their castings impressive. Access www.jnjtrains.com, go to the very bottom of the home page and check out PRODUCTS and LOCOMOTIVE SHELLS if you wanted to take a gander at how they look.
Many thanks sorry for the delay in answering, tons of stuff on the MR to-do list, I searched for what seemed like eternity and found a Del Prado piece, Like Dave said, it woulda been moot to spend the $$ on the already available items parts… The del prado FT is only $4.90! I checked out JNJ on a goose hunt for that GE 44 tonner shell. I think I will end up getting the FT shell JNJ has available. The particular Roco chassis I received was actually Quiet [ish]
Honestly So many little “need to do” things got overwhelming I bumped it down the list to start getting rolling stock uniformly smooth. So I am off stringing hoppers together in 3 to 5 car units
Btw Dave, I’ve seen your web site awhile ago Very Nice
R. T. POTEET do you have a site?
Again Many Thanks and Waving a Hand to You all from WV
