Recently purchased Spectrum 280 loco and am wondering how is the best way to disguise the tender to loco wire. Original wire is colored and am wondering about painting it black.
Will this cause it to be too stiff?
Also have put decodersb in older Mantua’s and have trouble finding wire that is fexible.
Any suggestions?

Paint it with any good black model paint. It shouldn’t be stiff unless you just shlop the paint on real thick.
Yeah, go ahead and paint it black. You might want to use a black marker, because it won’t dry and flake off, and it’s probably easier, too.
I’ve seen “super-flexible” wire at my LHS. It’s a bit of a job to replace a whole wiring harness, though. You might want to get a complete DCC socket with wires and try using that.
- I have never heard of a Spectrum 280. What is it? I guess it is a 2-8-0 HO scale.
I have used a black magic marker (permanent ink) to color wires with no issues.
NWSL has the wire you would want. www.nwsl.com
Tony’s has it also, www.tonystrains.com
This guy has a method of hiding wires more effectively.

Click on the option to install Tsunami in MDC Old Timer. It might work for you if you want to close couple the tender and loco. Helps hide the wires also.
