What is the best way in your opinion to clean locomotive wheels? (I know poeple ask this a lot lol)
I’m partial to the good paper towel across the track , wet with alcohol run one set of trucks on the towel with the other set on the tracks picking up juice. then vice versa with the other truck. My explaination is not good , I hope you get the idea.
I think i get it, what I do is put a paper towel on the track then run 1 truck on the towel dampend with alcohol, then I switch sides right?
Yep you got it. You’ll here more ideas but I swear this method is fool proof , just don’t light up while your pouring the alcohol. One truck at a time , let em spin and you’ll see black tracks on the towel.
I use the same method, but utilize clean rags (old cut up tee-shirts). You have to hold the engine in place while one set of wheels spins on the alcohol soaked rag (I use 91% Isopropyl) - then switch. BE CAFEFUL! Be sure your fingers are dry before you touch the loco or the alcohol might start to take paint off the loco. It started to happen to me once… [:O]
Ouch MAbruce I hope your loco was OK.
Nothing serious. My fingertips sharted to turn Pevlar Blue on one occasion. [:-^]
Oh, well at least you don’t have to use a paint brush! Just rub your fingers on a model to paint it.[:)]
