I bought a Proto gp7 loco dcc ready, do you have to disable something to run on dc. No dcc yet and won’t run on my track. Said loco is new in box. Any suggestions?
you shouldn’t have to change anything it should run if you have power to the trucks. you might want to check the wires going to the wheels two per truck one on each side see if one or more are loose or broken.
If it’s DCC Ready you shouldn’t have a problem running on DC. If it’s DCC Equipped you might. Is the locomotive lighting up or is it just sitting dead? Some Proto 2000’s have split gears and that could be your problem if it’s lighting up but not moving.
No not even a flicker
Try taking the shell off and looking for any loose wires, also look for anything that could be burnt.
If the loco is truly ‘new in the box’, I would return it to the dealer. You shouldn’t have to fool around with new equipment.
On the other hand, if it is new in the box, but slightly used, take off the shell and check to see if the jumper plug is in place. They have to be removed to install a decoder and someone may have removed it, or put it in place wrong. It is located on the top of the lighting control circuit board. While you are at it check the connections to the circuit board. Proto uses little plastic keepers to hold the wires on the board. The wires are not soldered to the board. Sometimes the connections are not as good as they should be.
While the shell is off, check to ensure all of the wiring is intact, as suggested by the other posters.
If all else fails, return it to the dealer, or file a complaint if you purchased it on that INTERNET sales site.
I have several Proto 2000 locos, none of them has failed to operate right out of the box.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.
Hey thanks for all the very good input for this new guy. When I get a chance( no kids around) I will be trying everything thats been posted and will repost my results good or bad.
