I know its been asked a million times but can I see pics of you guys locomotive collections? I am really getting into collecting these and I want to know whats out there. I am collecting n and HO, steam and diesel.
Hi,
Here is a outdated picture from about a year ago. I’ll try to get a new one up soon.
These are just the Lionel Steam, I haven’t finished photographing then whole collection yet.
Don’t let anyone tell you that “Lionels are just Kids toys” there are many that will give HO Brass solid competition in the detail department.
Doug
What is that 1st Lionel Steam you have there?
That is a model of a Class H-7 “Simple Simon” 2-8-8-2 simple articulated. During World War 2, Union Pacific bought 30 of these Locomotives from the Chesapeake & Ohio. During the war UP also purchased 5 Y-3 class locomotives (these were compound articulateds, 2-8-8-2’s also) from the Norfolk & Western
.

Many people don’t like to publish pictures of their collections because it just gives would-be theives ideas.
Are you serious or joking? If I had what some of you guys have, I would love to show others.
Very good point.
Others of us don’t have “collections;” we just have models that fit within the theme of our layout.
I can see everyone’s point, I personally couldn’t put up a picture if I did want to due to lack of computer technology. Plus the rest of your collections are a lot more interesting than mine…
My roster is mostly modern or semi modern diesels from GP38 up to AC4400. A lot of EMD types such as SD50 etc…I model a regional carrier so I figure it gives me an excuse to vary the motive power I use.
Here is my locomotive roster mostly BN but there are other roads to break up the color!
I’ll get a family picture this weekend, I really don’t feel like posting a picture of each (which is all I can do, lol).
I am quite serious. Too many stories out there of “I showed my trains and someon broke in a short time later.” Should someone figure out who a poster is, even if the trains aren’t stored at their residence the thief doesn’t know that. One can say they have 100s of locomotives but it is only someone saying it. A picture is a different matter. So show equipment in use at the club or at operating sessions. Never as a collection…
How about a collection of California Zephyr passenger cars which was not taken at my house:
Is that first picture one from the “Century Club” series?
It’s not a ‘collection’, it’s a running roster, and I’ve posted photos of some of them frequently on the Forum. As far as worrying about thieves, they’d have to get past Spooky, my Maine Coon and Remington, my Norwegian Skogkatt, and that would be like getting past two feline versions of Pit Bulls. It’s THEIR layout, too, LOL!
So,would-be thieves: Unless you are looking forward to being Fresh Kill, you’d be better off passing up my layout.
A lot of my roster is photographed in action on my two Websites, but if you want, here’s 3 of my Yellowstones and one of my 5 4-8-2’s.
Oh, heck, while we’re at it, here’s one of my 4 2-8-8-2’s, with one of my 3 4-6-6-4’s in the background:
And one of my 4 2-10-2’s:
And one of my 3 4-8-4’s
And before you think everything I have is Big Mainline Steam, one of my 4 2-8-0’s: Oh yah, that’s another one of my 2-10-2’s in the background, getting its ashes hauled (and no obscene comments, guys![:P]
Okay, that’s a start on my Rio Grande roster, and I haven’t even TOUCHED my SP steam. .
Tom [:)]
I can’t stand model railroaders who are paranoid about their stuff getting stolen.
I found one not so old Galloping Goose from Con-Cor at a flea market just a few days ago–that and my 2 brass doodlebugs—does that comprise a collection?

My loco fleet is pictured there. I think it’s current, lol.
The H-7 and the Big Boy in front of it in the Upper “Family” Photo are both from the JLC (Joshua Lionel Cowen) series. The Upper “Family” photo is of my Scale sized Lionel locomotives the other Family photo is of the semi-scale and traditional size part of my Lionel steam collection. Near the bottom is a pic of an HO and an O-aguge LionMaster semi-scale Challengers together, both cab# 3980, with a few detail differences. The two tone grey w/silver striping/lettering is my Favorite paint scheme.
