Locomotive Database(s)

Hi all…in my never ending search to learn all that is of railroading and model railroading, i’ve allways wanted to find that all in one database with all the locomtoives, all the rolling stock every thing…complete with diagrams, history and notes about it too!..alas i know thats impossible…and thats why ive turned here…Does anyone know of a database on the 'net like stated above or something similar…?..

i’d like the site to have those nice diagrams like the ones found in MR, info on the history and use of it…and pics…

Anyone?

Ryan

Doesn’t exist. Sorry.

The best thing you can do for now is to get the book that Kalmbach has, it is sort of an encyclopedia of locomotives in the U.S. by road names. Start there.

try this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Locomotive_stubs

wowzers that link sure does have alot on it…wow!..thanks for it

thanks for the website as well now I might be able to tell the locos apart.

http://www.railarc.org/ just found it…has everything from rolling stock to ebgines… rrpicturesarchive.net is also really good

One word: ORER (Official Railway Equipment Register)

Okay, the abbreviation is one word. These were published quarterly for the last century or so. Lacking on pictures in the older ones, but jam packed with all kind of information. In fact, I’m looking for one from 1957 if anyone has a spare copy (original, reprint, or CD format, I’m not picky)

Cant be done sorry; The old heads say that when they day comes that you know everything, you are a dead man.
The subject of railroading is just too broad it does not matter if we are talking about models or the real thing. On the job ive known old heads that were learning things the day they retired.
