I recently purchased an Atlas N scale SD-50 that was undecorated. Where can I purchase number boards for this loco or do I have to make them from scratch?
Also, I purchased a Digitrax DN163A1 mobile decoder for this loco and the LED’s are a bright white whereas a different Atlas SD-50 I have with a Lenz decoder has more yellowish lights. The bright white lights don’t look as realistic to me. Is there a way to set a CV or Function to change the light (crazy wish!) or is there a different version of the decoder itself or do the number boards have tinting that makes them more yellowish?
Thanks,
Eric
Not sure what you mean by numberboards… are you thinking pre-printed decals to put on the plastic lenses?
As for the bright white, get an orange Sharpie marker and hit the LED surface with that. It’ll tone it down quite a bit.

First of all I believe I misspoke, I’m a bit of a newbie. The loco isn’t “undecorated”, it just has no number. It’s an SP SD-50 loco.
The number boards missing from my loco are the lighted ones above the cab windows and the lighted ones on the back. Hope that clarifies it.
Thanks for the tip using the orange sharpie. I’ll try it.

What you’ll need to do is look up an SP roster to find out what would be an appropriate number for your loco, then pick up some Micro Scale decals for modern SP diesels. Those sheets will provide you with both the numbers for the cab side as well as for the numberboards. I prefer to blacken the lighted numberboards before I apply the decals… It’s hard to make these look good in N scale…
