Some time ago I remember an ad for a manufacturer of metal locomotive drivers. They offered drivers of various configurations and sizes for scratch building your own locomotives. Does any one know the name of such a vendor or if one is still in business?

Check with Sulphur Springs Steam Models < www.sssmodels.com > , then click on “lomotive parts and accessories,” then go to “wheel castings.” I think the company who makes them is called “Walsall” out of England, but I could be mistaken.
