Locomotive Egineer Beaten in India After Running Over People on Tracks

I found this story on MSNBC today. Evidently a crowd of people were on the tracks at a train station in India when an express came through and killed some of them. The train stopped and the poor engineer was pulled from the cab and beaten. Pretty crazy.

Third World antics, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened here.

Well, you stand around on the tracks when the ol’ “Cannonball’s” comin’ through and what do you think’s going to happen?

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Looks like common sense is anything but no matter where you go.

The driver was killed and the passenger cars were destroyed by fire set by the people at the station.

Not only, do the people not get to where they wanted to go, but there is now a destroyed train blocking the tracks.

Where was the station master? Certainly, they have one there and he/she should have been on the radio slowing trains through there.

What I read said this happened in the ruralist of rural India - may not be radio equipped.

The latest news about the incident says the engineer had clearance to pass through the area, but it doesn’t indicate who gave clearance, or how it was given.

This in an area where your “reserved seat” may be on the roof of the coach…
